You can pause a backup at any time by clicking on the pause button located on the desktop application to the right of the progress bars. Once paused you can resume the backup at any time.

Also in the application schedule settings, you can set the backup to automatically pause between certain times in the day. If you plan to leave a laptop backing up unsupervised we strongly advise setting an automatic pause period. Laptops are notoriously bad for getting too hot and overheating, please don’t run this risk prior to your files being backed up with Backup Genie. In the Settings > Power & CPU section of the app you can also set pauses to occur whenever your computer is on battery power. Backup can be quite battery intensive so if you are on the move without power, this option is for you.
